Curriculum Information

At Bishop Perrin, learning and teaching is in line with the requirements of the National Curriculum 2014. We take a thematic approach to learning and teaching, with children learning through the context of a new theme each half term. A cross-curricular approach is taken for the majority of curriculum subjects, with only RE, Maths, Computing, French and PE taught as discrete subjects.

At Bishop Perrin we follow a comprehensive phonics programme in KS1 that we have developed in-line with the Letters and Sounds programme, which has been adapted to meet the requirements of the National Curriculum 2014. As part of the teaching of reading, we use a variety of reading resources including reading books from Oxford Reading Tree, Collins Big Cat, Pearson and Project X reading schemes.

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s class teacher.

Assessment

At Bishop Perrin, we believe that the most fundamental use of assessment is to build pupils’ understanding and improve their learning within day-to-day lessons.   Please read our current assessment policy to understand more about how we assess children’s attainment and progress.

For each year group we have ‘non-negotiables’ which outline key expectations and provide information about the skills that are required at each milestone.
