WELCOME TO RECEPTION CLASS
Our Class Value is Friendship.
This is going to be an exciting year in which children learn all about the routines at Bishop Perrin School and develop strong foundations in their learning.
In Reception, children learn to read in a story-rich environment. We share books every day and learn about the world through a range of fiction and non-fiction books. Children learn to read through daily phonics sessions and learn cued articulation to support their understanding of the 44 sounds of the English language. Children are encouraged to develop their writing skills through extensive imaginative play and exploration of the environment. We endeavour to provide many real-life experiences for children in their learning which will include cooking, baking, gardening and visiting local places of interest such as the park and the library.
Children each have a Reading Log and Word Book which should be in school every day. The Reading Log is for parents to record the reading that takes place at home and for school staff to record information about the progress children are making in their reading. Each child has a designated day on which their reading books will be changed. Children should read their school reading book as many times as possible during the week to consolidate their learning. The Word Book can be used to practise letter formation and writing high frequency words.
Some of the themes of learning will include: Monster and Aliens, Dragons and Chinese New Year, Winter and Dark Nights, Traditional Tales, Food and Cooking.
PE is on Wednesday each week. Children keep their PE kit in school and are encouraged to be independent when changing in and out of their school uniform. Please support us by fostering a culture of independence at home.
