Our class value is JUSTICE.

Welcome to Year 6 - your final year in primary school is going to be a memorable one!

Year 6 is a fun-packed and busy year, with lots to learn and enjoy. In Year 6 we will learn through six different themes: Tales from the Thames; To Infinity and Beyond; Your Country Needs You; To Boldly Go; Lights, Camera, Action; and Back to the Future. We will take part in Junior Citizen and cycle training; go kayaking on the River Thames in Teddington which is always a lot of fun as well as celebrate the end of Year 6 with an action-packed week at Bowles in Kent.  

THEMES

Tales from the Thames You will learn about life along the River Thames and how rivers are important to the people who live near them.  You investigate structures to make a bridge, learn about the Anglo-Saxons, investigate and classify animals that live near rivers and compose music to create a river soundscape.

Your Country Needs You You will be learning about the soldiers who fought in the First World War, including finding out about some from our local area.  

To Infinity and Beyond You will learn about the Earth, the Moon, the Sun and other planets in the Solar System, asking questions about how famous scientists have helped us to understand the orbit of the planets and the length of days, months and years.  You will develop your drawing skills by looking at shade and tone with a range of media as well as learning about musical notation and the first moon landing. 

To Boldly Go You will learn about the Vikings, including who they were, how they lived, how they travelled and about Viking raids and invasions.  You will investigate forces including gravity, air resistance and water resistance and find out about levers, pulleys and gears. 

Lights, Camera, Action You will experiment with digital cameras to create your own photo montages and display them in a frame that you can make yourself.  You will think about how you can use light to change the way your photographs look and listen to music from the scores of famous films.

Back to the Future You will learn about life in how in technology, fashion, home and school-life, and toys and recreation has chnaged over the course of the twentieth and twenty first century.  You will explore Pop Art and the work of Roy Lichenstein and And Warhol as well as look ahead to your future at secondary school, how to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
