Computing
"Computing is not about computers anymore. It’s about living" – Nicholas Negroponte (American author and architect)
At Bishop Perrin Primary School, the values of faith, hope, and love can help guide us in our learning about computing, encouraging us to use technology for good. Faith in computing means believing that technology can be a powerful tool to solve problems and make the world a better place. It also reminds us to use our knowledge responsibly, trusting that we can create positive change through what we learn. Hope helps us to dream big, imagining a future where the skills they develop in computing can help tackle challenges like protecting the environment, making education accessible to everyone, or helping people stay connected. Love encourages us to think about how technology can help others, promoting kindness, respect, and fairness in the digital world. At Bishop Perrin, these values guide students not only to become skilled in using technology but also to use it with care and compassion, always thinking about how their work can help others and make the world a better place.
Computing Subject Progression Framework
Computing is an essential part of the curriculum, both as a stand-alone subject and as an integral part of all learning. Computers and technology are, in general, a significant part of everyone’s daily life and children need to be equipped to take part in a rapidly changing world. Computing skills are a major factor in enabling children to be confident, creative and independent learners and it is our intention that children have every opportunity available to allow them to achieve this. They should be taught to find, explore, analyse and present information and when they leave school they should be computer literate.
